Green Chemistry Initiatives

It has become increasingly important to evaluate the way chemical reactions are carried out in the chemical industry. There is growing interest in Green chemistry initiatives in different pockets across the globe. At Anthem, we are committed to carry out research and development work on whole cell based transformations which are environmentally acceptable processes. Biotransformation is an efficient alternative to the use of toxic and hazardous substances.Since whole cell biotransformation is substrate specific – the idea is to create a library of different strains to handle diverse substrates.

Towards our Green chemistry initiative, we have collaborated with Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, in developing whole cell ketoreductases that are useful in synthesizing chiral alcohols.

The study has been extended to transaminases and oxygenases.

We have successfully employed enzyme mediated transformations in our chemical processes. Our interest in this area includes lipases, amidases and nitrilases.
