Introduction

An influenza pandemic is a worldwide problem where the virus infects a large proportion of the human population. A quick detection system would therefore be very useful in port of entry settings, hospitals, school and university clinics, community centers and other places of congregation. Anthem is in the process of generating a novel and rapid method to detect this class of virus. We are looking for partners and collaborators to develop this assay.

Current technologies to detect Influenza causing viruses:

ELISA, PCR are the more commonly used techniques

Disadvantages of other Screens

  • Most ELISAs would be rendered invalid if the antigen on the outer coat of virus mutates
  • Higher percentage of false negatives
  • Not field-friendly
